Bio

David Jarvis

Composer : Percussionist : Clinician : Yamaha Educator/Artist

Born and raised in Detroit MI, David Jarvis has been learning, studying, writing, arranging and playing music since the age of ten.

His compositions have been performed all over the world. His music is published by C. Alan Publications, Honeyrock Publishing Company, Southern Music Company, Activist Music (distributed by Hal Leonard) and his own company Jarvisgreyhound Music.

He was the Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Washington State University for thirty-three years and has performed (and continues to perform) internationally in classical, jazz and popular music arenas. 

During his tenure at WSU, he was one of the members of Jazz Northwest (The WSU Faculty Jazz Group) and traveled around the country giving workshops and clinics in jazz and classical performance. He was principal timpanist with the Washington-Idaho Symphony for over 20 years and principal percussionist for the Oregon Coast Music Festival Orchestra for 15 years. He was the co-founder/leader of the popular jazz group, the Dozier-Jarvis Trio in addition to co-member of the trumpet/percussion duo, Cameradschaft and specialized in solo literature written for percussion and electronic sound and performed concerts all around the country. 

Mr. Jarvis is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, ASCAP and an artist/clinician/educator for the Yamaha Corporation.
